PORTRAIT PROCEDURE

Sandra Murzyn - Portrait Artist

STEP 1

The artist and client will meet, preferably in person to discuss:

feeling and setting of painting (e.g. indoor, outdoor, office, pose, etc.)
size of painting
clothing options
where the painting will be hung
personality and character of the subject

At the conclusion of this initial meeting a second session is scheduled to complete step 2.

STEP 2

The artist will have the subject pose to obtain information needed to complete the portrait. This will include a one to three hour photo session, and possibly the artist may feel it necessary to complete a head sketch from life in either oil, pastel, or charcoal. Approximately two hours is needed to complete the sketch. This is not required but adds an additional resource the artist finds valuable. A 40% deposit of the portrait fee is required at this meeting.

STEP 3

Back at the artist studio, a small color sketch of the painting, including pose, compostion, color scheme, etc. will be done and sent to the client for approval. These sketches are not for likeness but serve to illustrate the general approach to the finished portrait.

STEP 4

Artist works in studio from photographs and sketches to create the portrait.

STEP 5

Client reviews and approves final portrait. A final sitting is sometimes suggested either at the artist's studio or the client's location to complete the portrait. In some cases photographs of the finished portrait can be sent to the client for approval upon completion. When the portrait has received client approval, the final varnish coat will be applied and allowed to dry before being presented. The balance of the portrait fee is due before or upon delivery of completed portrait. Due to proper drying time of oil paints and varnish, please allow approximately 6 to 8 months after photo session for your portrait to be delivered.

Your portrait artist can assist you in your selection of a museum quality frame deserving of your portrait.
